An exceptional natural environment

From Provence to the mountain, from 1,312 to 4,921 feet, our territory is a paradise for nature lovers.

How great it is to watch up to 150 different bird species in the Val de Durance and some chamois on the Lure crest! You can also find a great variety of flowers: you can discover about ten species of orchids from February, as well as many wild aromatic plants such as fennel, service trees, thyme...

With fertile plains, arid plateaux, green hills, unexpected torrents, this area is a place of constrats combining a Provençal atmosphere and the invigorating influence of the mountain.

Nature outings organised by the Tourist Office:

In July and August, the Tourist Office and the Val Durance Mountain Bike Centre in Château Arnoux organise outings for everyone.  On Tuesdays: guided walk in the twilight, or a discovery of local edible plants. On Wednesdays: commentated walking tours following the path of Saint Jacques de Compostelle. On Thursdays: horse-drawn carriage rides to discover local heritage sites. On Fridays: children between 6 and 16 years old can learn to fish.  All these activities are available by reservation, and cost between 3€ and 6€.

Nautical Sports Centre UCPA "L'Hippo'nautic"

A Nautical Sports Centre on the banks of the River Durance has opened just next to the Camping Hippocampe, in the commune of Volonne.  The Centre is open every day in July and August, and offers a wide range of fun water sports, well supervised by trained UCPA monitors, and suitable for all ages.

You can rent different types of craft to explore the natural wilderness of the Durance (don't forget to bring binoculars for bird-watching!), pedalos, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and fishing boats.  The best way to get to l'Hippo'nautic for those not resident at the campsite is to park at the end of the bridge as you enter Volonne, and follow the marked footpath to the right (signposted "Tour du Lac") to the Nautical Sports Centre, on foot or by bike.
